2023 Winter Newsletter

Hello CWA Families!

Congratulations on completing Semester 1, we are now officially halfway through the 23-24 school year! We hope you all navigated the ice storm without too much disruption and are now taking the opportunity to enjoy this unseasonably warm weather ☀️
We want to extend an extra warm welcome to all our new families and students joining us this semester. We are so glad you chose to join the CWA family, please know that we are all here to support you in your educational journey. This semester we want to encourage all of our students to work hard and do their best by following the due dates in their online curriculum, consistently meeting with their advisor and attending synchronous classes and academic support sessions. You’ve got this!
We look forward to seeing you all onsite or online during this next quarter. Please stop by our offices  with a joke if you have one! 😊

Math Around the School

CWA strives to provide an accessible and rigorous math education to all our students. This year our goal is to increase our Oregon State Assessment Math scores  in grades 3 - 8 and 11, by 5% from last year’s student achievement gap. Students that attend class onsite work collaboratively to problem solve, communicate mathematically, and demonstrate mathematical knowledge using multiple representations.

PE at CWA

CWA students love PE! Students have multiple opportunities to participate in PE classes onsite in the 24-hr Fitness Gym with Coach Gronvold as well as online with Mr. Linn and Mrs. Booth. It is so fun for students to exercise and learn new skills together, we hope you can join us!

Elementary Star Students

Our Elementary students have been working hard on showing kindness and displaying gratitude at school and at home. Our November Students of the Month were chosen for being excellent friends; displaying kindness, empathy, and loyalty. Our December Students of the Month were chosen for having a grateful attitude, consistently showing appreciation and always remembering to say thank you. We are so very proud of these students, way to go!

Canned Food Drive

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to our students and families  that donated  canned food to our winter canned food drive. And an extra shout to those students that brought in the most at each grade level:
Eleme
ntary -  Oakken and Abbagail Dassenko
Middle School -  Giada Ferensak
High School - Vika Galimska
As a school, we brought in 952 pounds of canned food that was donated to the Wichita Center which directly impacts our very own  North Clackamas families. Our Middle School students brought in the most as a team and were awarded a pizza party to celebrate. Great job everyone!

ORC3S Presentation

CWA presented our Advisory Model at the Fall Oregon Coalition of Community Charter Schools Conference. We had a chance to showcase student art to the charter school community.  It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with other charter schools and share best professional practices.

Senior Internship/YTA - What's Going On

Juniors and Seniors at CWA all participate in Youth Take Action (YTA), a class in which students complete 40 hours of community service, and Senior Internship, an experience in which they explore or take next steps into a career area of interest.  Here are a couple CWA students engaged in their experience, doing great things!

OMSI K-8 Field Trip

CWA Kindergarten - 8th grade students had so much  fun learning about sea life and the earth’s oceans at the OMSI showing of Oceans: Our Blue Planet. A big thank you to all the volunteer chaperones, it was an amazing field trip and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Forensic Science Field Trip

On Thursday, January 11, 2024, students in the Forensic Science class were taken on a guided tour of the Oregon Forensic Science Lab in Clackamas. Students learned about the various disciplines of the lab from fingerprinting, DNA, trace evidence and even saw a few scientists working on gathering evidence from a seized weapon. Students learned about chain of command, as well as valuable insight on what it takes to work for the forensic science lab.
